Year of Hope

Prayer is a School of Hope.

"The Holy Spirit .... teaches us to pray in hope.  Conversely, the prayer of the Church and personal prayer nourish hope in us."                                      (Catechism of the Catholic Church #2657)

Reflection:    When I can no longer talk to anyone, I can always talk to God.  When there is no longer anyone to help me deal with a need or expectation that goes beyond the human capacity for hope, He can help.  When I have been plunged into complete solitude..; if I pray I am never totally alone.

Year of Hope

"Hope as an Anchor.  Are we anchored just the shore of that ocean far away or are we anchored in an articifical lagoon that we have made ourselves, with our rules, our behaviors, our schedules, our clericalism, our ecclesiastical attitudes, not ecclesial?  Are we anchored there? All comfortable, all secure. That is not Hope."                                     Pope Francis reflects on  the Nature of Hope

Year of Hope

“For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees?" (Romans 8:24)

Happy New Year! Pope Francis has called on us to look forward to 2014 with an authentic hope.   As we reflect on the past, let us also live in the present moment; growing in faith for what we cannot see and acting in charity in the hope for God’s eternal kingdom in the future.

As per Fr Raymond de Souza, “Hope is not wishful thinking about what might be.  Christian hope is founded on certain faith that life is not a meaningless riddle, but a mystery progressively revealed and finding its fulfillment in the redemption won by Jesus Christ and offered to all peoples.”

Parish Pastoral Council will be held this Friday at7:30 p.m.  Each parish group should send at least one member to the meeting.

Epiphany of the Lord – Jan 5, 2014

2014 : Year of Hope

Following the Year of Faith last year, our parish has set the theme of "Hope" for this year.  It is my hope that we can learn more about this "Hidden" virtue to enrich our Christian life.

A Latin saying "Dum Spiro spero" (While I breathe, I hope) tells the truth that we cannot live without hope.  For us Catholic, we have a higher hope, i.e. the hope for the eternal life.  It is a promise given to us by our Lord and the Lord will not fail us.  So, hope is the "Sure and steadfast anchor of the soul." (Hb 6:19)

As we enter the new year, let pray that we may hold this hope high by following Christ in every step we take.

Vocations      A special Mass will be celebrated for vocations in our parish on Jan 18 (Sat) 9:30 a.m.  Come and pray together for our young people to have greater faith in God, that they may respond generously and courageously.

Consider Increasing Sunday Offerings  Please consider the increasing costs to operate our parish.  Your offertory gifts help make the many ministers, community outreach and support programs in our parish.  Most importantly, you help maintain our place of worship for you and your family.  As God blesses us each year with many gifts, please consider recognizing the needs of the parish with a sacrificial increase in your weekly gift this year.
