"To Love is to Give" Food Drive    One person, one canned food! Catholic Women's League (Chinese) is going to run a Food Drive for the Richmond Food Bank from this Sunday, with the duration of three weeks.  Collection boxes will be located next to the Parish Gift Shop, and counter will be set up every Sunday mass.  Please drop off non-perishable food items to help those in need.

Catholics Come Home Ads begin Dec. 13!        Six weeks of compelling television commercials will begin airing from December 13 on CityTV, CTV, Global, and Chinese television, inviting viewers to "Come home" to Christ and the Church.  For a fruitful harvest, you are invited to:-

1.       pray and fast for those you know who have stopped practicing their faith.

2.       Hand out the "We Miss You" leaflet as an invitation.

3.       Say a friendly hello to unfamiliar faces in church.

Feast of Christ the King  inviting Catholics Home         Today we celebrate Christ the King, however it is not an earthly kingship, it is rather a kingship of truth.  As we are reminded in John’s Gospel, “For this I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth.”  Pray for those who search for truth that they will hear the message of Catholics Come Home and return to the sacraments.

Parish theme for November ~ "Apostle - St. Matthias"

*         Replace Judas as he was with the apostles from the baptism of John and had witnessed the Resurrection of Jesus.

*         He was chosen by lot after the apostles prayed to God.

*         One early church father said he had been one of the Seventy.   Another thinks he is Zacchaeus of Jericho.

*         Matthias was only mentioned once in the entire New Testament.

*         Possibly he ministered in Armenia before martyred in Jerusalem in 51 AD.

*         Patron saint of alcoholic and against alcoholism.

*         In art is represented with a cross and a halberd, the instruments of his death as martyr.

*         Feast day: May 14.

White Ribbon Against Pornography        Thank you for all parishioners supporting the White Ribbon of Signatures Campaigns on Oct 27 & 28.  We have collected 717 signatures and our Catholic Women's League will send the ribbon to the Member of Parliament for Richmond voicing our concern.

REMEMBRANCE OF ALL SOULS   November is the month to remember all our departed family members, brothers & sisters and friends.  Please pick the "All Souls Day Remembrance" envelopes and drop into the collection basket during Mass or return to parish office. One Mass per envelope will be offered except indicated.

 

Clergy Study Week     Fr. Chu will be away from Tuesday to Friday.  Daily Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Francis Chang.  Please continue to pray for your priests.

 

Home Mission      will be collected on Nov 18 (next Sun).  Please support.

 

Thank You for the Support of Catholics Come Home Appeal    Thank you for your contributions to the Catholics Come Home Appeal.  We have collected a total of $12,340.00  If you missed the special collection, ask for an envelope at your parish office.  Donation envelopes will be placed out again when the TV commercials start to air in mid-December.  Your support helps invite all those not actively practicing their Catholic faith to come back.  What better way is there to celebrate The Year of Faith!

Annual Mass for Deceased Bishops, Priests and Religious     The annual Mass for deceased bishops, priests and religious will be held at Holy Rosary Cathedral, Nov 8 (Thu), at 12:10 p.m.  All parishioners are most welcome at this special liturgy to be concelebrated by the priests of the Archdiocese.  Kindly remember in your prayers those who have laboured for the Church in Vancouver and pray that the Lord will send more dedicated men and women to continue their work.

Year of Faith Archbishop has written a Prayer for Evangelization marking the Year of Faith, prayer cards can be picked up at Info Counter.  On it you will see Peter turning to Jesus in repentance and faith (Lk 5:1-11).  The Archbishop encourages all individuals, groups and communities to recite this prayer, asking God for the conversion of hearts and minds.
