Freedom Reconciliation Event      for Youth and Young Adults on Mar 14 (Fri) 7:00 pm - 10:30 pm at St. Joseph the Worker Parish.  Free event starts with music, prayer, witness, catechesis and sacrament of reconciliation.

 

Catholic After Hours with Young Adults “Celibacy and Marital Love: A Marriage Made in Heaven” Mar 19 (Wed)  6:30 p.m. at Wicked Cafe, 1399 West 7th Ave., at Hemlock St. Van., with social and dinner, presentation at 7:30 p.m.  by Felipe Grossing on both marriage and celibacy as ways to follow Jesus. $5 per person.

 

Canonization Celebration    The Archdiocese is organizing a celebration for the Canonization of Pope John Paul II and Pope John XXIII  on Apr 27 (Sun). Please save the date.

Peter Chiang 60th Anniversary of Priesthood         Thanksgiving Mass on May 30 (Fri) at 5:30 p.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Church (4925 Cambie St.) and buffet dinner at 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church Hall (550 West 14th Ave.). Lent

 

Ash Wednesday (Mar 5)    Mass at 8:30 a.m. & 7:30 pm (English)

Day of Fasting and Abstinence: Catholics from age 14 are bound to abstain from meat. Age from 18 years to the beginning of their 60th year are bound to fast i.e. no meat with only one full meal be taken.

 

Stations of the Cross (Communal)    will be held on Fridays during Lent except First Friday. English at 7 p.m. and Chinese at 8 p.m.

 

Lenten Missions

 

Paschal Mystery & Christian Life by Fr. John Lam SDB will be held in Cantonese on Mar 8 (Sat) 9:30 a.m. Mass - 3:00 p.m. confession

Taking Sin Apart      What “IS” this sense-making thing called Sin? Mar 24 & 25: 7:30 - 9:00 p.m. and Mar 26 at 7:00 Mass & healing at 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. –Retreat by Bishop Emeritus R. Gilmore of Dodge City, Kansas and Jacqueline Loh.

 

First Friday Mass & Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament      Mar 7 (Fri).  Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament from 9:00 am to 7:45 pm. Vocations hour at 6 pm, Benediction at 7:45 pm followed by Mass in Cantonese at 8:00 p.m.  Please sign up at the Info Counter. Divine Mercy Devotion will be held at 7:20 pm.  Prayer intentions will be offered in the Mass.

 

11th Anniversary of the Dedication of our Church   Mar 2 (this Sun) is the 11th Anniversary of our New Church. Let us continue to give thanks to God for all His abundant blessings.

 

St. Joseph’s Society Collection  18 semi-retired and 18 fully retired priests are receiving benefit which is amounted to $410,000 this year.  Your support next Sunday will be appreciated.

Year of Hope

 

Hope is where our heart is! Loving God and obeying Him, we discover that Hope is within our hearts. It is   desirable expectation in everyone hearts to have peace and joy and the only way to attain it is to embrace God and His Works.

          Hope is a vital necessity of life, a gift that God wants to give each one of us. Without hope, there will be depression and despair. The spark of hope gives us enthusiasm for life in the midst of difficult situation, we are able to rejoice through times of suffering, we need constantly to remind ourselves that there is always hope to conquer the pain.

          May the Lord God give us eternal comfort and good hope to comfort and strengthen our hearts! Let us keep hope burning in our hearts!

 

Musical of Hope      invites all youth ages 13-28 to our auditions on Mar 15 (Sat) 1:00-5:00 p.m.  We are looking for singers and actors.  Please sign up at booth.

A Christian Life Program (CLP)   Sponsored by Couples for Christ on every Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at the Parish Hall.  The CLP is an integrated course intended to lead the program participants into a renewed understanding of and response to God’s call to them as Christian couples.  The program has a total of 13 separate sessions conducted once a week.  Please call Jolie / Marilen Catibog at 604-275-2610, Ning / Edith at 604-273-2426.
